Hello! I am Rebecca Attila-Fried (Attila, like the Hun, and Fried, like fried chicken) and I teach Social Studies. This is my 18th year of teaching and my first year at Coloma Community Schools. I am excited to join the Comet family, even though I grew up as a Watervliet Panther. Teaching was not my first "chosen" profession. I have worked as a TV reporter, in IT sales and consulting and marketing and public relations. I earned my bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University in Broadcast & Cinematic Arts and Theatre. My teaching certification and Master's in Secondary Education, with an emphasis in History, are from Grand Valley State University. Currently, I am pursing a Ph.D. in Education Curriculum and Instruction at Western Michigan University. My husband and I have one son. In my spare time, I am an avid reader, love to explore history - especially anything WWII, enjoy gardening, going for walks with our dog, and spend a lot of time at the ice rink with my son. I love teaching social studies and try to make it engaging and interesting for all students by connecting our studies to their lives. Besides social studies, I am passionate about literacy and trauma-informed equity-centered education that welcomes all students to learn and grow.
